SAFETY - Everybody's Business

07 September, 2007

This year's Safe Work Australia Week is the perfect opportunity for you and your
colleagues to learn about the most up to date ways to actively prevent injuries,
illness and death in the workplace.

The level of complexity isn't important; you just need activities that get everyone involved and thinking about how to make the workplace you all share safer.

>Send your employees to a Safe Work Australia Week Seminar or event and
facilitate them sharing what they've    learned back at your workplace

>Set up a regular Safety Brainstorm to raise new ideas from every area of your
 organisation

>Ask everyone to submit safety ideas and award a prize for the most innovative
 suggestions

>Run a work safety trivia contest (include some fun questions, tasks, games
and prizes)

>Conduct a safety spring clean of workplace clutter

>Start awarding a regular Safety Certificate

>Hold a BBQ or morning tea to recognise workmates who actively contribute to
 safety

>Conduct a safety audit, perhaps by inviting staff from different departments to
conduct
a review of each other's    safety practices (fresh eyes can spot opportunities!)

>Invite Emergency Services reps to explain how a serious accident could affect
 your workplace

>Practise emergency drills regularly

>Set up a permanent work safety display or library

>Arrange annual staff health check-ups
