New Workplace Health & Safety Laws Fact Sheet
27 August, 2007
Queensland Government Department of Industrial Relations
offers information regarding changes to the certification of 'prescribed occupations'
WHAT IS A PRESCRIBED OCCUPATION?
Prescribed occupations include scaffolders, doggers, riggers, crane and hoist
operators, loadshifting equipment operators, and pressure equipment operators.
To work in a prescibed occupation, you must have a certificate
from the Department of Industrial Relations.
WHAT HAS CHANGED?
Registered training organisations (RTOs) can now provide the training and assessment
for prescribed occupations. The change is part of a national move to transfer the
assessment of prescribed occupations from accredited providers to registered training organisations.
WHY HAVE THE CHANGES BEEN MADE?
The transfer will improve the quality of training and assessment. It will also help create
a more consistent, national training system.
